Montpellier

Good morning teap players. France dmolished Ireland last night in a disciplined display of Rugby. The Irish were having trouble from the start, and soon had to resort to dirty tricks, for which they suffered, and zent further behind. A lesson for us all, I'm afraid; particularly those practising law or zorking in commerce, married people; and those in 'established' relationships. If this is you, play like the French, and don't be deceiptful like the Irish. I'm sure that isn't a description of Irish people as a nation, but rather just tactics employed last night.

Sarh has reported that Myer department store is on fire in Hobart. I suspect her; she has always been faithful to Harris Scarfe, and coming away to Europe as an alibi is just all too coinvenient. Anyway; keep that under your hat; we don't want trouble at the airport.

We have just had the last few days at Sete in the French South (ponsy to say south of France), and enjoyed being out of the bustle; in a grand hotel; indeed, the Grand Hotel, on the canal. Seafood restaurants abound, cheek by jowl, and the beach and bike hiring was fun, although my face is lobster again.

Catching up with Seals today, I epect for some pre Fiji strategy meetings. The ground is dry, but not hard, and forecast is for an overcast warm day, pretty much ideal for a fast game with no particular benefit to either team.

Birdman arrives here tomorrow morning for the match, so it should be an all round enjoyable day, with good humour and cheekiness abounding. The town is full of Australians; I expect the dole queues are reduced in Sydney and Melbourne with both these bludgers and lots of NZ 'Australians' out of town on well earned holidays.

As you would expect I have been contemplating work quite a lot. Not.

Lesson for the day: best places to stay are the old hotels like the Astor, or brilliant brand new ones but the old ones live up to expectation, and are generally in the most convenient spots, near train stations; cafes, red light districts etc. The new ones are often next to reclaimed industrial zones, lack charm, and follow an uninteresting formula with staff trained not to think but to rely on systems. Which systems inevitably have glitches or break down, and are then only able to work again after affectionate attention from legends like Johnny Carter.

By the way; Angleterre verse Samoa later today should hopefully see the end of the English for a decade. But realistically, Samoa wont win, and J Wilkinson will slot a few ~ after all, he has had four years off.

The other thought to share is that the Dear Old Ladies, Jean and Marje, would very much enjoy the places we are visiting, although they may have left it a bit late. Just a reminder to us all that if we want to wage war, or attend to other such functions best attended to in prime time, turn the TV off now, and get out of the house. e visited the old quarter of Lyon a few days ago, and there is an ancient cathedral dedicated to Saint Jean ~ no coincidence§

Enjoy the day; warm your hands by the fire in Murray Street, and I will return shortly.

Love

PK
